Every year, Independence Day is celebrated on 15 August as national holiday in India. India celebrates its 72nd Independence day this year. It is because of this day, we are living in air of freedom. India stood free from British rule on 15th August and our national flag was hoisted for the first time by Pt Jawaharlal Nehru at Lahori Gate of Red Fort in New Delhi. His words “At the stroke of the midnight hour when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom” stood true. Sacrifices of those great warriors set Indians free from 90 years of slavery.
History of Independence Day
Indians decided to be free of British Raj and started mass movement against them. Those Firangis had no other option except leaving the country. Lord Mountbatten was given mandate to transfer the powers by June,1948. Lord Mountbatten knew if he waited till that day, no powers will be left to transfer. He advanced the date to August 1947.
Britishers camouflaged there defeat in the name of stopping the bloodshed.
The Indian Independence Bill was introduced on July 4,1947 and was passed in 15 days. On August 15,1947, we were set free of Britishers.
